(An Open Letter to the Residents of Jamaica)
It is now 12:57 am as I write this....
I have a dream.
I wish one day everybody on Earth would be able to find a job at the simple click of a button — just like you call an Uber today.
Sometimes I wonder — How a great company like Uber did not go far beyond allowing me to call a cab or order some food — maybe some groceries too these days. They could have truly changed the world — a lot more than they did.
I have wondered about this pretty much since — the first year I started using Uber (2014) till today — especially now when the world is filled with AI powered tools that create resumes, find jobs and do much more.
It is time — we solved this.
What is the problem really?
A simple thing like finding a job can take weeks or months.
In a world where everyone is worried that AI may take their jobs away and layoffs are happening across the world, initiated by corporations and governments.
It is not only scary for most people, but also gut-wrenching and painful to think what might happen to those people who have not saved enough...what might happen to those people who live paycheck to paycheck.
Such people are challenged today — and the risk with accelerating AI is that all of us may be in that boat — on a day that's not too far away.
I must say, I am an AI believer.
I am not an AI doomer.
I do believe that AI has the power to truly elevate humans and humanity to the next level — unlocking our true potential.
Yes, it is critical to note — that there is a huge risk.
No — Not of people losing jobs to AI.
But of — each and every one of us — losing our Digital Freedom to a handful of organizations that own all our data, AI agents and digital assets.
Hence, over the past 24 months I have worked tirelessly with a team of experts and had the great fortune of building frameworks and collaborations to drive awareness and solutions through the World Digital Governance initiative.
wdg.org (World Digital Governance) is Accelerating AI with Guardrails.
Therefore today — Finding you a Job at the click of a button while letting you retain your Digital Freedom — is closer to being a reality than ever before.
This is why I have embarked on this journey — along with some really young, bright, and driven minds — on a little island called Jamaica, which we may all know for Bob Marley and Usain Bolt, but it has a lot more to offer.
It is here (in Jamaica) I believe we can truly experiment with this idea — and get it right.
(Why Jamaica ? — Jamaica is one of the few if not the only country in the world where "owning your data" is already a fundamental human right.)
Once our experiment works here, it lays our path to make an impact in the world at great scale — much like what we would've hoped for from Uber.
We welcome you — one and all — the Residents of Jamaica to participate in this effort and make this dream a reality — and Jamaicans all over the world to watch us while we do it and cheer us on.
For once we succeed here, we will be ready to help people in other nations around the world that face the same challenge.
Our promise is this:
Click a button — and you'll find a job before your Uber ride reaches home.
I pray for all and wish us all success.
May our collective wisdom show us all the right path.
Good Night and Good luck to us all.
